Magnesium taurate is a unique molecule that combines magnesium and taurine–two critical molecules for optimal cellular functioning that support almost every system in the body. Magnesium is key for over 300 chemical reactions in the body for muscle functioning, cellular repair, sleep, and energy. Yet, lowered magnesium status is highly prevalent in the general population and decreases during the aging process. Taurine is present throughout most tissues of the body but is particularly concentrated in the brain, nerves, heart, and retina. Taurine is also a standout molecule in the longevity arena. However, like magnesium, the presence of taurine declines as we age.*

Magnesium: It is estimated that over 60% of adults in the United States may not meet the Estimated Average Requirement for daily magnesium intake.1 Because magnesium is such a fundamental mineral for human functioning, deficits in magnesium status have been associated with many aspects of the aging process.2
A 2024 comprehensive review article discusses magnesium and the hallmarks of aging. Magnesium is involved in DNA stability, replication, and maintenance, RNA transcription, osteoblast proliferation, cellular energy, calcium homeostasis, and mitochondrial integrity. Clinical and animal studies with magnesium have found improvements in parameters related to cellular senescence and redox balance, endothelial health, and brain functioning.2
Taurine: Taurine is considered a semi-essential nutrient, yet its presence declines as we age. Clinical studies have reported 80% decreases in taurine concentrations in elderly individuals when compared with their younger counterparts.3 Evidence suggests that taurine supplementation may be a promising anti-aging strategy.*
