Berberine has been shown to support the microbiome by favoring healthy bacteria naturally present in the gastrointestinal tract and discouraging non-native bacteria colonization. Current research indicates that berberine may interrupt biofilm stability and supports short chain fatty acid (SCFA)- producing bacteria.
